UPDATE! I put together an entire popcorn activity complete with pictures and text to use with the popcorn containers! Read more about it here and download it here !
Out of all my materials, and that’s a LOT , this activity has to be one of my favorites. It is just as easy to do with a group as it is to do one-on-one, takes up little space, and can be used for just about any target.
it’s hard to get more grad school budget-friendly than this!
my perfectionist tendencies had a hard time making these messy to best show that they’re dry erase. I had an even harder time putting it on here!
I’ve seen a lot of popcorn printables on Pinterest and other blogs, which I think are great! I love these just a little more because you can use the same kernels over and over…and over again, and can even divide them during the same activity for multiple targets.
They stack and store easily, and as long as you don’t tip it (guilty!), the kernels can stay inside! At $1 ($1.07 after tax) having enough of these containers to use in a group setting is pretty feasible.
While they’re not the exact same ones, you can download some kernels here ! Know what else works, too? Crumpled yellow post-its! Easy to use in a pinch 🙂

I do "popcorn" stringing (basically popcorn images with a hole punch through it – we're not allowed to use food unless we have permission from ALL parents) when I do "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies." The tubs would be a great addition! I actually have 4 of them that were up in my attic, they're now in my speech room! Reply

I've made this same activity and I have the word,'POP', on some of the popcorn pieces. If a kid draws a POP piece, then they have to do some sort of set rule (ie- say their words a double amount of times, put all their pieces back, give some of the pieces to a peer, etc…) You get to make the rule based on what you think will work best with your group! I've made this same activity and I have the word,'POP', on some of the popcorn pieces. If a kid draws a POP piece, then they have to do some sort of set rule (ie- say their words a double amount of times, put all their pieces back, give some of the pieces to a peer, etc…) You get to make the rule based on what you think will work best with your group!
