Hi all! Sorry for my sporadic posting — I'd tell you all about how crazy grad school is, but you know that all too well already.
This is how most of my day was spent today: my very first Walk Now for Autism Speaks, and I got to be part of a wonderful team for my current in-home ABA client. It was an incredible experience.
But on to the resource! I created a free phoneme segmentation screener with a Pete the Cat theme, and I'm sharing it here for fellow SLPs. Phoneme segmentation is a critical phonological awareness skill, and having a quick, engaging screener can help you pinpoint where your students need support.
What's included: A printable screener that uses Pete the Cat visuals to make phoneme segmentation assessment fun and accessible for young learners. The screener helps you evaluate a child's ability to break words into individual sounds — a foundational skill for reading and spelling.
How to Use It
Present each word orally and ask the student to segment it into its individual phonemes. The Pete the Cat theme keeps kids engaged, and the simple layout makes it easy to administer in a busy therapy session. It works well for kindergarten through early elementary students, and can be especially helpful for those on your caseload who are struggling with early literacy skills.

The screener was shared as a free printable via Google Docs. You can access it through the link below:
If you use it, I'd love to hear how it worked with your students! Feel free to reach out at letstalkaboutspeechtherapy@letstalkspeechblog.com.
